I released Contact Form 7 1.7.7. This release contains new tag types for required checkboxes and drop-down menus. Checkbox* and Select* are newly introduced in this release. And Danish, Latvian and Swedish translations have been added.

New tag types: checkbox* and select*

As text*, email* and textarea* in the past, checkbox* and select* are required fields. The sender must check or select at least one meaningful option for each of these.

投稿の内容にコンタクトフォームを追加するにはどうすればよいですか?

まず Contact Form 7 の管理ページを開きます。それから、追加したいコンタクトフォームを選んで開きます。

個々のコンタクトフォームには固有のタグがあります(こんなの [contact-form 1 “My contact form”] )。投稿の内容にコンタクトフォームを挿入するには、このタグをコピーし、それを投稿の内容にペーストします。

コンタクトフォームに項目を追加するにはどうすればよいですか?

項目を追加するには、フォーム入力欄にタグを追加します。

個々のタグには厳密な構文があり、いくつものオプションをサポートしています(Contact Form 7 Tag Syntax 参照)。

タグの構文を覚えるのは大変ですが、代わりにタグジェネレータを使えばずっと簡単にカスタムタグを作れます。タグの作成をクリックしてお好みのオプションを選択するだけです。

フォームにタグを追加したのにメールには何も表示されません。どうすれば追加した項目の入力内容をメールに取り込めますか?

メール入力欄にタグを追加する必要があります。また、メール欄に追加するタグはフォーム欄に追加されたタグに対応していなくてはなりません。ですから例えば、フォーム欄にタグ [text your-new-field] が追加されているなら、これに対応するメール欄のタグ [your-new-field] が必要になります。フォーム欄のタグの2番目の要素 (この場合は “your-new-field”) のみがメール欄では必要になることに注意してください。

メール欄のタグはそれと同じ名前を持つフォーム項目のユーザー入力値によって置き換えられます。

メールに [foobar] のような変なコードが入っているのですが、これは何ですか? 入れて欲しいのはユーザーの入力内容なんですが。

ひとつ上の回答を参照してください。この場合、メール欄にある [foobar] に対応するタグがフォーム欄にないためです。対応するタグがフォーム欄にないメール欄のタグは、置換されずにそのまま出力されてしまいます。

はい。投稿内容に置く場合と同じ方法で、サイドバーのテキストウィジェット内にもコンタクトフォームを設置できます。

テンプレートファイルにコンタクトフォームを埋め込むことはできますか?

できません。

フォームを送信すると「メッセージの送信に失敗しました」というエラーメッセージが表示されます。何が悪いのですか?

2つのケースが考えられます。ひとつはメールサーバにおいて実際に問題が発生していて、そのためメールが送信できなかったケースです。この場合、エラーメッセージは赤色のボーダーラインで囲まれています。サーバー管理者に問い合わせてください。

もうひとつは、フォームで入力された内容が Akismet によってスパムと判定されたケースです。この場合、エラーメッセージは黄色のボーダーラインで囲まれています。

フォームの送信後、回転する矢印のアイコンは現れるのですが、それっきりで何も起きません。

こういった問題はプラグイン間の衝突が原因でよく起こります。試しに他のプラグインをすべて停止してみてください。

一部のブラウザ上でコンタクトフォームの動作がおかしくなります。

間違って書かれた HTML、CSS または Javascript がよくこの手の問題を引き起こします。バリデータまたはデバッグツールを使ってフォームのページをチェックしてみると原因が見つかるでしょう。

コンタクトフォームを英語ではなく自国語で使いたいのですが。

Contact Form 7 は多くの言語に翻訳されています。languages フォルダにあなたの言語の言語ファイルがあるか確認してください。

Contact Form 7 のロケール設定は WordPress の設定に依存します。WordPress の設定を変更すると同時に Contact Form 7 も変わります。WordPress のロケール設定の方法はこちらを参照してください。

CAPTCHA が機能しません。画像が表示されないのです。

CAPTCHA を使うためには GD と FreeType ライブラリがサーバにインストールされている必要があります。それから、contact-form-7/captcha/tmp フォルダを書き込み可能にしておいてください。

CAPTCHA のテキスト入力項目が Internet Explorer では動くのに、Firefox では正しく機能しません。入力項目にコードを入力できません。

この現象は <label> 要素の誤使用が元でよく起こります。それらが正しく使われているか確認してください。

Where is the settings page for Contact Form 7?

Log into WordPress and open Settings > Contact Form 7.

How can I add a contact form into my post content?

Open the settings page for Contact Form 7, and then open the contact form you want to add.

Each contact form has its own tag, such as [contact-form 1 "My contact form"]. To insert the contact form into your post, copy the tag and paste it into the post content.

How can I add a field to my contact form?

To add a field, add a tag to the Form textarea.

Each tag has a strict syntax, supporting several options (see Contact Form 7 Tag Syntax).

Learning the syntax might be difficult, but you can easily make a custom tag by using the tag generator instead. Click Generate Tag and simply select the options you’re interested in.

Nothing shows up in the email, even after adding a tag to the form! How can I include a new field’s input in the email?

You need to add a new tag to the Mail fields. This tag should correspond to the tag in the Form you wish to include in the email. Thus, when you add a new form tag such as [text your-new-field], the corresponding email tag would be [your-new-field]. Only the second part of the tag (”your-new-field”, in this case) is needed for the email.

A tag in the Mail field will be replaced with the user’s input contained in a form field with the same name.

I get emails containing codes such as [foobar]. What’s this? I want to see the user’s input.

See above. In this case, no form tag corresponds to the [foobar] email tag. A tag in the Mail field which has no corresponding tag in the Form will be left without replacement.

How can I specify a subject for the email?

Simply edit the Subject field in the Mail.

Can I place a contact form outside a post?

Yes. You may place a contact form in a text widget as well.

Can I embed a contact form into my template file?

No, this functionality is not yet supported.

After submitting the form, I get an error message stating “Failed to send your message”. What is wrong?

There could be two causes for this. The first is actual mail server trouble, where email cannot be sent. In this case, the error message would be surrounded with a RED border line. Contact your server admin.

The second possible cause is that the form content is classified as spam by Akismet. In this case, the error message would be surrounded with a YELLOW border line.

The spinning arrow icon shows up once I submit a form, but then nothing happens.

This is most probably due to a conflict between plugins. Try deactivating all other plugins.

My contact form behaves oddly on certain browsers.

This may be caused due to invalid HTML, CSS, or Javascript. Please check your form page with a validator or debugging tool.

I want to use contact form in my language, not in English. How can I do that?

Contact Form 7 has been translated into many languages. See if the languages folder contains a language file for your language.

The locale setting of Contact Form 7 follows the locale setting of WordPress. Once you change the WordPress locale to, Contact Form 7 is also changed. See how to change the WordPress locale here.

CAPTCHA does not work; the image does not show up.

To use CAPTCHA, you need GD and FreeType library installed on your server. Also, the contact-form-7/captcha/tmp folder must be writable.

CAPTCHA’s text input box is working on Internet Explorer, but not with Firefox. I cannot enter the code.

This is a well-known issue caused by misusing the <label> element. Make sure you are using it correctly.

This is good:

Contact Form 7 / Download

Acceptance type of form tag newly added. Got more HTML-valid a bit.

New tag type: acceptance

A tag with acceptance type generates a checkbox with some JavaScript gimmick. You can use it as a test confirming if the sender has accepted specific terms.

Example

[acceptance foo] Check this if you want to send.

By default, submit buttons in the form are enabled when the acceptance checkbox is checked.

Disabled when not checked.

With invert option, this rule is inverted. Submit buttons are enabled when you uncheck it and disalbed when you check it.

Example

[acceptance bar invert] Uncheck this if you want to send.

You can use multiple acceptances in the same form.

More valid

I fixed some HTML-invalid codes.

• Add alt attribute to <img />
• Add cols and rows attribute to <textarea>
• Add size attribute to <input type="text" />

The last one is not for HTML-valid, it’s for users who claims default size of text input field is too small. The default size now is 40, in most of browsers it’s larger than before.

If you still have HTML-invalid codes not yet fixed, please let me know.

acceptance タイプのフォーム用タグが新たに追加されました。HTML の仕様に反していた部分を少し修正しました。

新しいタグ: acceptance

acceptance タイプのタグは JavaScript の仕掛けが組み込まれたチェックボックスを生成します。送信者が特定の条項を承諾したかどうかを確認するために使えます。

例

[acceptance foo] Check this if you want to send.

デフォルトでは、フォームの送信ボタンは acceptance のチェックボックスがチェックされている場合に有効になります。

そしてチェックボックスがチェックされていない場合は無効になります。

invert オプションをつけることでこのルールを反転させることができます。この場合、送信ボタンはチェックされている場合に無効で、チェックされていない場合に有効です。

例

[acceptance bar invert] Uncheck this if you want to send.

同じフォームの中で複数の acceptance を組み合わせて使うことも可能です。

HTML をより正しく

いくつか HTML の仕様に反していた部分を修正しました。

• <img /> に alt 属性を追加
• <textarea> に cols と rows 属性を追加
• <input type="text" /> に size 属性を追加

最後のは HTML 仕様に従うためというよりは、デフォルトのテキストフィールドのサイズが小さすぎるというユーザの声に応えての変更です。デフォルトで size="40" になったのでたいていのブラウザでは前より大きくなっているはずです。

TinyMCE x WordPress Translation Sharing (txwts) is a WordPress plugin for translators who are localizing WordPress 2.5 beta right now. It allows you to import TinyMCE 3.x language package into WordPress PO file.

WordPress 2.5 newly allows gettext based localization for TinyMCE. TinyMCE has so many texts needed to be translated. With this plugin, you can reduce the work and share the same translating style between WordPress and TinyMCE.

Install

Download zip file from here.

1. Upload whole txwts folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
2. Activate the plugin through the [Plugins] menu in WordPress

Usage

1. Open admin panel [Manage] - [TxW]
2. Choose a PO file you want to translate (e.g. ja.po) from your PC
3. Select your locale (e.g. Japanese)
4. Enter [Translate] button

Then you’ll get updated PO file, check carefully and commit it.

Update (2/28): “No fuzzy” option added. Check this option if you want to make entries translated by this plugin not “fuzzy”.

Contact Form 7 / Download

Two fixes and one enhancement. 1) The SEO issue reported by Dexter has been fixed (I believe). 2) For wpautop() haters, hook function adding logic changed. 3) New include_blank option added to form tag of drop-down menus.

SEO issue

Dexter and some people told me that there seems be a SEO issue in Contact Form 7.

The “?wpcf7=json” code is used by Contact Form 7 only in AJAX submitting (POST) process. I wonder why Google indexed such URLs even now. Anyway, I worked around the issue.

Now Contact Form 7 doesn’t use “?wpcf7=json”, so I believe that kind of problem is fixed. But Google’s existing indexes are still there, I can’t do anything for that.

If you hate wpautop()

wpautop() is a WordPress’s built-in filter which automatically surrounds a paragraph with <p></p> tag. It’s useful and I like it, while I know some users hate it.

Some users remove the filter by commenting out a line in wp-includes/default-filters.php like below.

//add_filter('the_content', 'wpautop');

# Well, this is just an example. I don’t suggest that.

But when you are using Contact Form 7, this hack doesn’t work.

wpautop() is clever, but it doesn’t correctly treat form control elements. See this ticket. It’s a big issue for Contact Form 7. So Contact Form 7 removes original wpautop() filter, and adds patched one.

Due to this, if you want to remove wpautop() filtering, you need to hack codes in Contact Form 7 so far. It was sometimes confusing for the anti-autop hackers who didn’t know Contact Form 7 is doing such replacing.

In this release, I changed the replacing logic. Now it replaces wpautop() only if original wpautop() is registered on the filters array. So if you hate wpautop(), you can remove it by just editting wp-includes/default-filters.php.

New include_blank option for drop-down menu

If include_blank option is set, drop-down menu inserts a blank item “—” into the top of it. So this tag

[select your-menu "---" "a" "b" "c"]

and this tag

[select your-menu include_blank "a" "b" "c"]

have the same semantics.

I recommend you to use this option because it seems that some browsers don’t submit first option’s value in a menu, even if they shows the first one as selected by default. See also the HTML spec.

修正が2つ、機能追加が1つあります。1) Dexter さんから報告された SEO 関連の問題が修正されました(と、思います)。2) wpautop() を毛嫌いする人のためにフック関数まわりのロジックが変更されました。3) 新たに include_blank オプションがドロップダウンメニューのタグに追加されました。

SEO 関連の問題

Dexter さんとそのほかの方から Contact Form 7 に SEO 上の問題があるようだとの報告が寄せられました。

“?wpcf7=json” というコードは Contact Form 7 が AJAX での送信 (POST による) に限って使用しているものです。なぜそんな URL を Google はインデックスしたのか、いまだによくわかっていません。ともかく、対策を講じることにしました。

今回のリリースから Contact Form 7 は “?wpcf7=json” を使いません。これでこの手の問題は解決されたものと思います。ただしすでに Google にインデックスされているものはそのままなので、これについてはどうしようもありません。

wpautop() がお嫌いなら

wpautop() は WordPress のビルトイン・フィルタで、パラグラフを自動的に <p></p> タグで囲みます。便利な機能ですがこれが嫌いだというユーザもいるようです。

一部のユーザはこのフィルタを無効にするために wp-includes/default-filters.php の一行を以下のようにコメントアウトして使っています。

//add_filter('the_content', 'wpautop');

# これは単に例として示しているだけで、別に勧めているわけではありません。

ところが、Contact Form 7 を使っているとこのハックが機能しません。

wpautop() は賢いのですが、困ったことにフォーム関連の要素を間違って扱ってしまいます(Trac #4605 を参照)。これは Contact Form 7 にとっては重大な問題なので、Contact Form 7 ではいったん元の wpautop() を削除して、代わりにパッチが当てられた修正版の wpautop() を追加することで回避しています。

このため、もし wpautop() のフィルタを無効にしたいなら、Contact Form 7 のファイルに手を入れる必要がありました。このことは Contact Form 7 がそのような置換をしていることを知らないアンチ wpautop() なユーザにとって困惑の種だったようです。

今回のリリースからは、この置換のロジックを変更し、オリジナルの wpautop() が適用フィルタの配列に登録されている場合に限定して修正版への置換を行うようにしました。これにより wp-includes/default-filters.php の編集で wpautop() のフィルタを無効化できるようになっています。

ドロップダウンメニューのための include_blank オプション

include_blank オプションがセットされていると、ドロップダウンメニューは空の項目 “—” を先頭に挿入します。ですから次のタグ

[select your-menu "---" "a" "b" "c"]

と、次のタグ

[select your-menu include_blank "a" "b" "c"]

は意味的に同じです。

一部のブラウザでは、たとえ先頭の項目をデフォルトの選択オプションとして表示されている場合であっても、その先頭の項目の値は送信しないようなので、include_blank オプションの使用を推奨します。関連する HTML の仕様がこちら。

Contact Form 7 uses “tags” for two purposes; one is for form content and the other is for mail (to, from and subject fields and message body). Tags for form content has different syntax from ones for mail.

Example of a tag used in form content:

Example of a tag used in mail:

As seen in above examples, a tag for form content generally has more complicated syntax and many options. In the rest of this page, I write mainly about the syntax and options of form content tag.

Base syntax of form content tag

A form content tag consists of a type, a name, options (optional) and values (optional).

Here is the syntax rule with my bogus BNF.

submit type tag is an exception. It doesn’t have name.

Tags for text field (text, text*, email and email*)

Description

A tag with type of text, text*, email or email* is replaced by a text input field. The difference among the four types is how input text is validated. text* and email* suppose inputs are not blank, so they are used for required fields. email and email* suppose inputs are email address.

Options

(size)/(maxlength)	Field size and max length. You can omit one of them, like 40/ or /100.
id:(id)	id attribute value of the input element.

akismet:author akismet:author_url akismet:author_email	Options for using Akismet (spam filter). See here.

A tag with this type can accept only one value and the value is used as default input value.

Tags for text area (textarea and textarea*)

Description

A tag with type of textarea or textarea* is replaced by a text area. textarea* supposes input is not blank, so it is used for required fields. While textarea accepts blank input.

Options

(cols)x(rows)	Columns (width) and rows (height) of text area. You can omit one of them, like 40x or x10
id:(id)	id attribute value of the textarea element.

Tags for drop-down menu (select)

Description

A tag with select type is replaced by a drop-down menu and its options.

Description

exclusive	Make checkboxes exclusive. I mean, when you check a checkbox in the set, others are unchecked, so zero checked or one checked. This is a JavaScript gimmick, so JavaScript on client side is needed.
default:(num)	Pre-checked options. The integer following default: is the position in the order of items. 1 is the first one. If you want to make two or more items selected, joint integers with _(underbar), as default:1_2_3.
id:(id)	id attribute value of the span element surrounding checkboxes.

昨年の12月25日に Sandbox テーマのバージョン 1.2 がリリースされています。2006年8月にこのブログで紹介したときには 0.6.1 でしたがあれから大きく変わってきています。

Sandbox 1.0 での大きな変更として、それまで“スキン”と呼ばれていたスタイルシート部分の扱われ方が変わりました。1.0 以前は Sandbox のディレクトリの中にスタイルシートが置かれ、Sandbox の専用管理画面でどのスタイルシートを使用するか選択するようになっていましたが、1.0 以降ではスタイルシートを Sandbox ディレクトリの外に置くようになっています。

例えば Sandbox とそれをベースにした Sandbox Kubrick をインストールする場合、構成は

のように、Sandbox と Sandbox Kubrick が並列になります。

配置した後、管理画面のテーマ選択ページで Sandbox Kubrick を選択します(Sandbox を選択するのではないことに注意)。このように Sandbox は「置いておくだけ」ですが、Sandbox ベースのテーマを使う場合には必ず Sandbox も配置しておく必要があります。

Sandbox ベースのテーマ (Sandbox Kubrick) の中身はどのようになっているかというと、意味のあるファイルは style.css だけです。PHP のテンプレートなどは含まれていません。これだけでどうして Sandbox とつながるのか不思議になりますが、カギは style.css のコメント部にある TEMPLATE の行にあります。

TEMPLATE 行が指定されていると、WordPress はテンプレート (index.php や single.php など) を指定されたテーマから継承して使うようになります。

このテンプレート継承の機能はこれまでほとんど使われることがありませんでしたが、実は現在のテーマシステムが導入された WordPress 1.5 の時点ですでに用意されていました。

Sandbox 1.x 用日本語リソース

Sandbox 1.2 をベースに日本語リソースを作成しました。表示を日本語化したい場合は zip ファイルをこちらからダウンロードして、ja.mo を sandbox ディレクトリ直下に配置してください。

日本語の表現を自分の好みに合わせて変更したいときは ja.po を poEdit などのツールを使って編集してください。

このページは Contact Form 7 プラグインの使い方について紹介しています。

デフォルト (英語) 設定の WordPress で使った場合、Contact Form 7 はそのメッセージを英語で表示します。

このメッセージを日本語に変えたい場合、Contact Form 7 のソースコードに変更を加える必要はありません。Contact Form 7 には日本語の言語ファイルが同梱されているので、日本語設定の WordPress で使う場合には自動的に日本語でメッセージを表示するように作られています。

WordPress の言語を日本語に設定するには、WordPress のディレクトリにある wp-config.php を以下のように変更します。

define ('WPLANG', 'ja');

WordPress の日本語公式サイトで配布している日本語版 WordPress をインストールされている場合ははじめから上の設定が行われていますので、特に何も手を加えることなく日本語で使用できます。

もし、日本語の表現を自分の好みに合わせて変更したいと思ったなら、Contact Form 7 の日本語言語ファイルは contact-form-7/languages/wpcf7-ja.po にあるので、このファイルを poEdit などのツールを使用して編集して使ってください。
